Socceroos star Jason Cummings has cleared up the shirt swap drama with Olivier Giroud, claiming it was all a giant “misunderstanding” and that the 2 are “really finest mates now”.
Speaking after Australia’s 4-1 loss of their World Cup opener to France, Cummings revealed how he had initially tried to swap jerseys with Kylian Mbappe.
But when that plan did not eventuate, he as an alternative turned his consideration on Giroud.

“So once I was strolling again to my change room, I’ve seen Giroud,” he stated on ‘The Project’.
“I’m strolling, as good-looking as ever, and I requested him, ‘Giroud, please man, can I get your shirt man? I’m a giant fan, can I get your shirt?’
“And he simply walked previous me, pretended he by no means spoke English! And he’s been within the Premier League for 10 years! (laughing). He simply walked proper previous me.”
In response, Giroud later shared photographs on social media of Jackson Irvine’s jersey with the caption, “Hi @jacksonirvine_ how is my English mate?” alongside laughing emojis.
Appearing on SEN Radio’s ‘Saturday Morning Mowers Club’, Cummings put any lingering hypothesis over the shirt swap to mattress, explaining it began out as “only a little bit of banter”.
“I simply suppose it’s humorous. It was only a little bit of banter. I didn’t really anticipate it to get to Giroud and for him to reply,” Cummings stated.
“It bought twisted a wee bit, saying that Giroud informed me he doesn’t communicate English. That wasn’t the case, he most likely didn’t perceive me as a result of I communicate Scottish. I generally communicate gibberish so he simply didn’t perceive me or one thing, I’m not too certain.”

Cummings went on to explain it as a “misunderstanding”, including that it has all been “resolved” and that he had really since acquired a message from Giroud himself.
“He really messaged me a DM on Instagram and it seems he’s an excellent bloke,” Cummings stated.
“He’s supplied to ship me an AC Milan jersey and mainly stated sorry for the misunderstanding and stuff. That’s good and exhibits that he’s really a very good bloke.
“I stated to him that I’m going to ship him again a Mariners jersey in return. It seems that we’re really finest mates now so, you understand, I bought the final snicker.”
